Dear Laura,
I know just how you feel, I am so glad to see what you are doing with the chidren. I am sure ( when they are adults ) they will remember what you have done for them.
I have been an artist all my life ( since I was 7 years old ). I grew up in a small town about the size of old "Z", studied Art in Minneapolis and retired young.
After retiring I moved back to my little home town and started painting. One day one of my grade school teachers came to see me, along with her husband. She gave me a package containing ALL the drawings I had drawn so many years ago. She also told me I had been her best art student.
So I know what it's like.
